Durghaṭavṛitti (Trivandrum Sanskrit Series No. 6) cites Jainendra and Kaiyaṭa as authority but does not mention Haradatta or his Padamañjarī. If Saraṇadeva had known of the Padamañjarī which is in some respects as important a work in the grammatical literature as the Mahābhāṣhya he would not have omitted to mention it in his Durgaṭavṛitti; and from this it appears that Haradatta flourished later than Saraṇadeva. Saraṇadeva wrote his work, as he himself tells us in his work, in Saka 1095 corresponding to 1172 A. D. If Haradatta is posterior to Saraṇadeva, then his date falls at the close of the 12th century A. D.
