Digitized by Madhuban Trust The Śrauta-sūtras are that branch of the Vedic Literature which describe the ritual in a Sūtra-style. Indispensable for the knowledge of the Vedic ritualism, they are also a source of the history of Ancient India. About sixteen Śrauta-sūtras have come down to us, of which two belong to Rigveda, four to Samaveda, one each to Atharvaveda and White Yajurveda and eight belong to Black Yajurveda. The Baudhāyana Śrauta Sūtra belongs to the Black Yajurveda and is the oldest among the Śrauta-sūtras of Black Yajurveda. Hence its significance need hardly to be mentioned. First published in 1904-23 by the Asiatic Society of Bengal, the work has been out of print since a long time. The importance of the present edition has been enhanced by the addition of a new Appendix which contains many text emendations. The work is indispensable for every Vedic scholar.
