Sl. 24-27.] षडशीतितमोऽध्यायः 653 Sloka 23.—The wood-pecker, deer, rat, antelope, horse or donkey, cuckoo, blue jay, porcupine, as well as the sound of chanting Vedic hymns, of bells and of conch shells, are strong in the North. न ग्राम्योऽरण्यगो ग्राह्यो नारण्यो ग्राम्यसंस्थितः । दिवाचरो न शर्वर्यां न च नक्तंचरो दिवा ॥२४॥ Sloka 24.—Rural creatures should not be taken into consideration when they are found in forests, nor the wild ones, in villages.
