762 बृहत्संहितायाम् [Adh. CII. Sl. 1-4 राशिविभागः ॥१०२॥ Division of the Zodiac into Signs. अश्विन्योऽथ भरण्यो बहुलापादश्च कीर्त्त्यते मेषः। वृषभो बहुलाशेषं रोहिण्योऽर्धं च मृगशिरसः ॥१॥ Sloka 1.—The sign (मेष-Mesha) Aries comprises the whole asterisms of Aswini and Bharani and the first: quar- ter of Krittika ; (वृषभ-Vrishabha) Taurus, the three remain- ing quarters of Krittika, the whole of Rohini and the first half of Mrigasira. मृगशिरसोऽर्धं रौद्रं पुनर्वसोरंशकत्रयं मिथुनः । पादश्च पुनर्वसुतस्तिष्यः श्लेषा च कर्कटकः ॥२॥ Sloka 2.—Sign (मिथुन-Mithna) Gemini comprises the latter half of Mrigasiras, the whole of Ardra and the first three quarters of Punarvasu ; (कर्कटक-Karkataka) Cancer, the last quarter of Punarvasu and the whole of Pushya and Aslesha. सिंहोऽथ मघा पूर्वा च फल्गुनी पाद उत्तरायाश्च । तत्परिशेषं हस्तश्चित्रार्धं च कन्याख्यः ॥३॥ Sloka 3.—The sign (सिंह-Simha) Leo comprises the whole of Magha and Purvaphalguni and the first quarter of Uttaraphalguni ; (कन्या-Kanya), Virgo, the remaining quarters of Uttaraphalguni, the whole of Hasta and the first half of Chitra. तौलिंन चित्रान्त्यर्धं स्वातिः पादत्रयं विशाखायाः । अलिनि विशाखापादस्तथानुराधान्विता ज्येष्ठा ॥४॥ Sloka 4.—Sign (तुला-Tula) Libra consists of the latter half of Chitra, the whole of Swati and the initial three quarters of Visakha ; sign (वृश्चिक-Vrischika) Scorpio, of the last quarter of Visakha and the whole of Anuradha and Jyeshta.
