160 EXPLANATORY NOTES in his Kāvyādarśa uses this word पौरस्त्य to represent the Gauḍas and calls their Rīti as गौडीया. Page. 20. *[ ll. 5.-6. cf. सुपां तिङां च व्युत्पत्तिं वाचं वाञ्छन्त्यलङ्कृतिम् । तदेतदाहुः सौशब्द्यं नार्थव्युत्पत्तिरीदृशी ॥ (भामह. 1-14). व्युत्पत्तिः सुप्तिङां या तु प्रोच्यते सा सुशब्दता । सरस्वतीकण्ठाभरण I. आवापोद्धरणे and यत्पदानि (वामन 1-3-15); सति वक्तरि (Ibid. 1-2-11). In three chapters 4-6, the author treats of पदवाक्यविवेक and other subjects connected with it. Thus, naturally the topic of पाकप्रतिष्ठा which is subordinate to the main subject of पदवाक्यविवेक is introduced in the 5th chapter. After discussing the nature of Pratibhā, Vyutpatti, and classification of poets, the author starts a discussion in order to determine the nature of the Kāvyapāka, and records the opinions of earlier authorities on that point. Pāka in poetry means 'maturity' and it originates from the constant practice of composing poems.
