Bhāmaha and Daṇḍin consider both Guṇa and Alaṅkāra equ- ally important in poetry. cf. (Bhāmaha. 1–13.) (Daṇḍin. 2. 3) Bharata, Ānanda and Rudraṭa observe that a poet should princi- pally make an attempt to develop the Rasas in his composition. Though Rājaśekhara is acquainted with the views of these writers, he does not point out here the importance of Alaṅkāra, Rasa and Dhvani in poetry, and his silence in this respect is due, very proba- bly, to the fact that his professed object was to impart lessons on elementary matters in this verse, rather than to waste his time in scholastic discussions. l. 11. अभिधा=word. अभिधोपनिषत्=grammar. l. 16. see काम. सू. 4–1 for एकचारिणीवृत्त. एकचारिणी attends to the त्रिवर्ग i. e.
