Losing finally all hope of a peaceful settlement with the Maharana, Bābur determined to make the most of his resources and give battle. Taking advant- age of the excitement and the exhilara- tion produced by his appeal to the religion of his followers, and their practical response to it, and in order to keep up their newly- acquired spirit, he broke up the camp to which he had been confined for nearly a month and marched in order of battle to a position two miles in advance.
