EDITORS’ NOTE. Siddhānta Rahasya, one of the Sixteen Prakaraṇa Granthas of S’rī Vallabhāchārya, with eleven commentaries and a Gujarātī translation of S’rī Purushottamaji’s Tikā, is published by us from funds supplied to us by Bhailalbhai Purushottamdas, the present Hon. Manager of The Dakor Temple of S’rī Ranchhodji, from the profits of the oil-mill set up by his son Thakorlal at Nandurbar. These commentaries are those of S’rī Gokulanathaji, S’rī Raghunathaji, S’rī Kalyaṇarayji, S’rī Vrajotsavaji, S’rī Gokulotsavaji, S’rī Harirayaji, S’rī Vitthales’waraji, S’rī Purushottamaji, S’rī Giridharaji, Dikshita Lalu Bhattaji, and S’ris’āchāryamatānuvarti. A. Gokulanathaji’s tīkā is the oldest and most well-known. Hence it is printed first. The text of this tīkā is based on eleven MSS. The oldest of these is dated Samvat 1730, Kartik sud 5th. It was obtained from S’rī Vallabhalalji’s collection. Another belonged to Vitthalaraya, Son of Damodarji. The rest were obtained from Pandit Gattulalaji’s Collection, Ranchhodlalji, Gokulanathji and the late Mr. Tansukhram Tripathi of Nadiad. B. The Second Tīkā is by Raghunathji. It is based on two MSS., one from Pandit Gattulalaji’s Library, and the other from the late Mr. Tansukhram. C. The Third is Kalyanarayji’s. It is based on six MSS. All the six MSS. are old and good. One of these belonged to one Pitambara, and the other to Dwarkes’wara, dated Samvat 1812 Posh Sud 12th. D. The Fourth is Vrajotsavaji’s. It is doubtful as to who wrote this. Of the five MSS. consulted, one attributed the authorship to Chacha S’rī Gopeshaji, another MSS. obtained from Kankroli, to Gopalaji, while the rest to Vrajotsavaji. Hence it is named here after him. If we are to rely on our judgment of the style of writing, from the known style of Chacha Gopes’aji, this is different. It is probable that Gopalaji is not the author of this. E. Harirayji’s tikā is in verse. It is based on four MSS.; all are old and good, and obtained from the same sources as above. F. The MSS. of Gokulotsavaji’s tikā is dated 1871, s’ake 1736, Falgun Sud 2nd, Sunday. It is based on one MSS. alone. No name is given at the end. The name Gokulotsavaji, given here, is based merely on conjecture arising from the known style of the author. G. Vitthales’aji’s tikā is based on one MSS. It is not Gusaiji’s in any case. It was obtained from Vallabhalalji’s collection. Hence it is possible that Kaka Vallabhji’s father Vitthales’a was the author of this. H. The Eighth is Purushottamaji’s. The text of this tikā is based on eight MSS. Some of these were old and very good. One obtained from Gaikwad’s Central Library collection of Baroda was an excellent copy. One was dated 1787 samvat. Margas’īrsha Krishṇa 7th, Sunday.
