संदर्भ में पढ़ें18 NOTES ON [ I. 14— स नरशार्दूल शाधि किं करवाम ते ॥ गम्यतामिति तानाह यथेष्टं रघुनन्दन ॥ मानसा वार्धकालेषु साहाय्यं मे करिष्यथ ॥’ सर्ग 28 13-14 It will thus be seen that जृम्भक was only one among the numerous अस्त्रs bestowed by विश्वामित्र Compare महावीरचरित I ‘यानि हि भगवतः कृशाश्वादुरुपचार्योऽन्ते र्वासितस्य सरहस्यजृम्भकप्रयोगसंहारस दिव्यास्त्रमन्त्रपारायणस्य विद्यातत्त्वबीजानि, तानि मत्प्रसादादयं त शश्वदात्मना च रामभद्रस्य संप्रति प्रकाशन्ताम् ।’ P 12 Verse 15 ब्रह्मोदय is the subject of अपश्यन् गुरव पुराणा is in apposition with ब्रह्मोदय एतानि is the object of अपश्यन् तेजांसि is in apposition with एतानि Translate--the old and venerable ब्रह्मा and others, having practised religious aust- erities for the benefit of religious truth ( Veda ) for more than a thousand years, saw these ( अस्त्रs ) which were the splendours of their own austerities ब्रह्माण वेदस्य हिताय ‘वेदस्तत्त्वं तपो ब्रह्म ब्रह्मा विप्र प्रजापति’ इत्यमर परः सहस्रा —सहस्रात् परा —is an irregular compound and qualifies शरद It is formed according to the सूत्र ‘सुपा’ पा 2 1 4 The स् after पर is put in on the analogy of words like पारस्कर (पा० VI 1 157) and पर is placed first in accordance with the सूत्र ‘राजदन्तादिषु परम्’ पा० 2 2 31 शरद is acc plural ( accusative of time ) शरद् f autumn, year अपश्यन्—is used in a technical sense The ऋषिस are not re garded by Indian writers as creating the Vedic hymns, they are supposed to have only seen by intuition the eternally existing Veda ऋषय are said to be मन्त्रदृष्टार and not मन्त्रकर्त्तार .
