most important influence through out upper India in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. That it formed the basis of Sikh movement in Punjab, is clear from the fact Kabir's sayings are constantly quoted by Nanak and his successors, the authors of the Sacred writing which constitute the bible (Granth) of the Sikh religion.

४-मोनियर विलियम् साहब एक सुप्रसिद्ध अंग्रेज हैं जिन्होंने स्वयम् भारत वर्षका भ्रमण किया है ये ब्लेयल कालेज आक्सफोर्डमें संस्कृतके प्रोफेसर थे, भारतके धार्मिक ध्यान तथा आयुके छठे प्रकरणके १५८ पृष्ठमें लिखते हैं कि, इसमें कोई सन्देह नहीं कि, पन्द्रहवीं तथा सोलहवीं शताब्दीके बीच उत्तरीय भारतमें कबीर साहबके धर्मका बड़ा प्रचार हुआ। इसमें सन्देह नहीं कि, यही धर्म पञ्जाबी सिक्ख धर्मकी जड़ है। इस बातसे जाना जाता है कि, कबीर साहबकी वाणी, नानक तथा उनके स्थानापत्रोंके स्थान २ पर अपनी पुस्तकोंमें लिखी हैं।

(5) On page 162 under the heading of the Sikh theistic sect founded by Nanak, the same author gives the following account of Nanak in the light of Professor Trump's investigations (as he himself admits) and in the light of his own enquiries which he made at Lahore when he visited it.

Nanak However made no claim to be the originator of a new religion. His teaching was mainly founded on that of his predecessors, especially on that of Kabir whom he constantly quoted.

५-येही महाशय अपनी पुस्तकके १६२ पृष्ठमें सिक्ख धर्मके ग्यारहवें प्रकरणमें नानक साहबका विवरण करते हैं कि, जो कुछ वह करते हैं वह ट्रम्प साहबके ज्ञातव्यकी उस विज्ञताके अनुसार कहते हैं जैसे कि, उन्होंने स्वयम् लाहौरमें आकर प्राप्त किया, नानक शाहने नये धर्मके बनानेकी बात नहीं कही। यथार्थमें उस धर्मकी जड़ कबीर साहबकी वाणी पर है। क्योंकि, कबीरके धर्म पुस्तकका अनुवाद वह अपनी पुस्तकमें करते हैं।

(6) Following extracts are given by Kailas Chandra Manna B. A. and Devendra Nath Roy B. A. of L. M. S. College, Bhawanipur, in a brief sketch of the History of India page 105.

"Kabir was the most celebrated of the twelve disciples of Ramanand.....He lived in the fifteenth century. Nanak appears to have been chiefly indebted for his religious notions to Kabir.

Nanak founded the Sikh brotherhood in the fifteenth century. He is said to have derived his religious notions from Kabir.
