538 बृहत्संहितायाम् [Adh. LXVI, Sl. 1-4. अश्वलक्षणम् ॥६६॥ Signs of Horses. दीर्घग्रीवाक्षिकूटत्रिकहृदयपृथुस्ताम्रताल्वोष्ठजिह्वः सूक्ष्मत्वकेशवालः सुशफगतिमुखो ह्रस्वकर्णोष्ठपुच्छः । जङ्घाजानूरुवृत्तः समसितदशनश्चारुसंस्थानरूपो वाजी सर्वाङ्गशुद्धो भवति नरपतेः शत्रुनाशाय नित्यम् ॥१॥ Sloka 1.—A horse is perfect or flawless in limbs when it has the neck and sockets of eyes, long ; rump and heart, broad ; palate, lips and tongue, red ; skin, hair and tail, fine ; hoofs, face and gait, fine ; ears, upper lip and root of the tail, short; shanks, knees and thighs, round; white and uniform teeth, and a beautiful appearance. Such a horse always conduces to the destruction of the King's enemies. अश्रुपातहनुगण्डहृद्गलप्रोथशङ्खकटिबस्तिजानुनि । मुष्कनाभिककुदे तथा गुदे सव्यकुक्षिचरणे तथाऽशुभाः ॥२॥ Sloka 2.—Inauspicious are the chargers that have hairy circles under the eyes, the jaws, on the cheeks, heart, throat, nose, temple, hip, abdomen, knee, scrotum, navel, shoulder, anus, (or junction of neck and collar- bone), right side of stomach and legs. ये प्रपाणगलकर्णसंस्थिताः पृष्ठमध्यनयनोपरि स्थिताः । ओष्ठसक्थिभुजकुक्षिपार्श्वगास्ते ललाटसहिताः सुशोभनाः ॥३॥ Sloka 3.—Auspicious are the hairy circles on the up- per lip, throat, ears, in the middle of the back, near the brows, on the lips, haunches, fore-legs, upper parts of left legs, flanks and the space between the brows. तेषां प्रपाण एको ललाटकेशेषु च ध्रुवावर्त्ताः । रन्ध्रोपरन्ध्रमूर्धनि वक्षसि चेति स्मृतौ द्वौ द्वौ ॥४॥
