712 बृहत्संहितायाम् [Adh. XCV. Sl. 9-12. : the middle of a village and caw aloud, there will be suf- fering from famine; if they fly in a circular group, the village will be besieged; if they appear in several groups, there will be disaster, अभयाश्च तुण्डपक्षैश्चरणविघातैर्जनानभिभवन्तः। कुर्वन्ति शत्रुवृद्धिं निशि विचरन्तो जनविनाशम् ॥९॥ Sloka 9.—If the crows attack people fearlessly with their beaks, wings or kicks, there will be an increase of enemies; if they fly at night, the destruction of the people is indicated. सव्येन खे भ्रमद्भिः स्वभयं विपरीतमण्डलैश्च परात् । अत्याकुलं भ्रमद्भिर्वातोद्भ्रामो भवति काकैः ॥१०॥ Sloka 10.—If crows fly from left to right, there will be trouble from one’s own kinsmen; if from right to left, from enemies; if in a disorderly fashion, there will be a whirl-wind. ऊर्ध्वमुखाश्चलपक्षाः पथि भयदाः क्षुद्भयाय धान्यमुषः। सेनाङ्गस्था युद्धं परिमोषं चान्यभृतपक्षाः ॥११ Sloka 11.—Crows with their beaks raised and wings fluttering indicate danger to a traveller on his way; those stealing corn, famine; those perched on something per- taining to the army, a battle; those that have wings simi- lar (very dark) to those of the cuckoo, theft. भस्मास्थिकेशपत्राणि विन्यसन् पतिवधाय शय्यायाम् । मणिकुसुमाद्यवहने सुतस्य जन्माप्यथाङ्गनायाश्च ॥१२॥ Sloka 12.—If it throws ashes, bones, hair or leaves on a couch, the owner will meet with his end; if it strikes the bed with a gem, flower or something like that, a son will be born to him; if with grass, a stick or so, a daughter.
