788 बृहत्संहितायाम् [Adh. CIV. Sl. 56-59. righteously, just as bile being greatly vitiated (made powerful) by men basking in the Sun, tortures them, leaving out those careful men who have a regulated diet. This is in पथ्या metre, a kind of आर्या. छे लात् पदं द्वितीयात् प्रथमात् परकेऽथ विषमयुजि चरमे । षष्ठो लोऽग्रेऽन्त्ये त्रिषु पादो भवति भवति तु पथ्या ॥ यादृशेन ग्रहेणेन्दुर्युक्तस्तादृग्भवेत्सोऽपि । मनोवृत्तिसमायोगाद्विकार इव वक्त्रस्य ॥५६॥ Sloka 56.—The nature of the Moon varies according to the planet she conjoins with, just as the facial ex- pression does according to the mental frame. The Moon is the mind of कालपुरुष. The metre is वक्त्र- . रौ यदा गौ तु वक्त्रं स्यात् नौ गावन्यत्र दृश्येते । तृतीय चरणे य्सौ गौ जसौ गुरुरथो गः स्यात् ॥ पञ्चमं लघु सर्व्वेषु सप्तमं द्विचतुर्थयोः । यद्वच्छ्लोकाक्षरं तद्वल्लघुतां याति दुःस्थितैः ॥५७॥ Sloka 57.—When planets are ill-placed, a man is belittled, just as the 5th syllable in all the quarters and the 7th in the 2nd and 4th are short in the श्लोक metre. प्रकृत्यापि लघुर्यश्च वृत्तबाह्ये व्यवस्थितः । स याति गुरुतां लोके यदा स्युः सुस्थिता ग्रहाः ॥५८॥ Sloka 58.—A person, though low-born and of reprehensible conduct, becomes respectable in the world, when the planets are well-placed in transit, just as a short syllable occurring at the end of a foot comes to be treated as long. प्रारब्धमसुस्थितैर्ग्रहैर्यत् कर्मात्मविवृद्धये बुधैः । विनिहन्ति तदेव कर्म तान् वैतालीयमवायथाकृतम् ॥५९॥
