Sl. 60-61.] चतुरधिकशततमोऽध्यायः 789 Sloka 59.—If the wise begin a work for achieving prosperity when the planets are ill-placed, that itself will destroy them, just as the ceremony for raising a goblin, done improperly, destroys the doer himself. The metre is वैतालीय- This is an अर्धसमवृत्त where the first and third quarters are similar, while the second and fourth are of a different type. In the odd quarters, there are 14 Matras, and in each of the even ones, they are 16 in number. All the four quarters are similar in one respect, viz., they end in र Gana plus a short syllable and a long one. In the odd quarters, there will be 6 Matras remaining outside the Ganas, while in the even ones, there will be 8 Matras. लाः षड् दर्गा नैधना अयुक्पादोऽष्टौ तु तथा समे च लाः । न समोऽत्र परेण युज्यते नैते षट् च निरन्तरा युजो ॥ सौस्थ्यमवेक्ष्य यो ग्रहेभ्यः काले प्रक्रमणं करोति राजा । अणुनापि स पौरुषेण वृत्तस्यौपच्छन्दसिकस्य याति पारम् ॥६०॥ Sloka 60.—A king, though endowed with little pro- wess, starting on an expedition at the proper time, in view of the good positions of the planets, (See XVI-40 supra) achieves greatness that is eulogised in the scriptures. The metre is औपच्छन्दसिक- It is formed by the addition of a long syllable to each of the quarters of the वैतालीय. पर्यन्ते यौ तथैव शेषमौपच्छन्दसिकं सुधीभिरुक्तम्— उपचयभवनोपयातस्य भानोर्दिने कारयेद्धेमताम्राश्वकाष्ठास्थिच- मौर्णिकाद्रिद्रुमत्वग्रखव्यालचौरायुधीयाटवीक्रूरराजोपसेवाभिषेकौषध क्षौमपण्यादिगोपालकान्तारवैद्याश्मकूटावदाताभिविख्यातशूराहवश्ला- घ्ययाज्यग्निकर्माणि सिध्यन्ति लग्नस्थिते वा रवौ । Dandaka 61.—a.
