(8) [The ' Unintelligible ']— ' Tasyādhimātropāyasya Tīvrasaṁvegatajuṣaḥ Dṛḍhabhūmiḥ priyaprāptau Yatnaḥ sa phalitaḥ sakhe '. ' The powerful efforts of the man have succeeded in helping him to attain what he desired,—he having em- ployed the methods (of self-control and the rest) conducive to true wisdom, and practising intense renunciation '. Here the words ' adhimātra ' (' tīvrasaṁvega ' and ' dṛḍhabhūmi ') are used in their technical sense found in Yoga literature only, and as such they are not intelligible '. (9) [' The Vulgar ']— ' Tāmbūlabhṛtagalloyaṁ bhallaṁ jalpati mānuṣaḥ ' ' Karoti khādanaṁ pānaṁ sadaiva tu yathā tathā '. ' Having his cheeks filled with betel-leaves, and eating and drinking always, he goes on talking rapidly'.
