When there are ‘several’—two or more—‘repetitions’ of ‘one’—consonant—‘also’—i.e., or of several consonants,— we have the ‘Vṛttyanuprāsa’, the ‘Alliteration of Diction’. 79. As regards ‘Vṛtti’, ‘Diction’ :— (a) That (Diction) which is characterised by consonants suggestive of sweetness is called ‘Upanāgarikā’ ‘Polished’; and (b) that which is characterised by consonants suggestive of floridity is called ‘Paruṣā’, ‘Harsh’. Examples of both these have been cited above (in Ch. VIII, under ‘Sweetness’ and ‘Floridity’). (c) That characterised by others is called ‘komalā’, ‘soft’. 80. ‘Others’—Consonants other than the two kinds mention- ed above. This last diction some people also call ‘grāmyā’, ‘Vulgar.’ . Example— ' ‘Apasāraya ghanasāraṁ kuru hāraṁ dūrameva kiṁ kamalaiḥ Alamalamāli mṛṇālairiti vadati divāniśaṁ bālā. For translation (see above stanza No. 341.) 80.
