( १०३ ) Bahuvrihi compounds having for their last members अङ्ग, गात्र or कण्ठ the feminine is formed either in आ or ई, thus the other form will be संनतागात्रा । मनीषिभिः —( मनीषा+इनिः ) मनीषा (बुद्धि ) एषामस्तीति मनीषिणः, तै मनीषिभिः (विद्वद्भिः) by the thoughtful; wise, or, मनस ईषिभिः, मनीषिभिः । For synonyms of मनीषा Cf. ‘बुद्धिर्मनीषा धिषणा धीः प्रज्ञा शेमुषी मतिः’ इत्यमरः । The suffix इनि is added by ‘व्रीह्यादिभ्यश्च’ पा० ५.२ ११६ । सतां—सज्जनानाम् of good people Genitive plu of सत्, which is declined as, सन्, सन्तौ, सन्तः । सन्तं, सन्तौ, सतः । सता, सद्ब्यां, सद्भिः etc सङ्गतम्—(सं+ √गम्+क्तः) सख्यम् Meeting friendship साप्तपदीनं— (सप्तपदं+खञ्—ईन ) सप्तानां पदानां समाहारः सप्तपदं (द्विगु- समासः ), सप्तपदेन (सप्तभिः पदैः वा ) अवाप्यने इति साप्त- पदीनम् । the word पद has two meanings, viz ‘a word’ and ‘a footstep’, so the expression means ‘which is formed by uttering seven words’ or ‘by walking over seven steps together’ i e., friendship. The word has lost the literal sense and is used for friendship. It is irregularly formed to indicate this meaning by साप्तपदीनं सख्यम्’ पा० ५ २ २२ । ‘सख्यं साप्तपदीनं स्यात्’ इत्यमरः । Cf. ‘संबन्धमाभाषणपूर्वमाहुः’ रघु० २ ३५ । and ‘सतां सप्तपदा मैत्री, सत्सतां त्रिपदा स्मृता । सत्ततामपि ये सन्तस्तेषां मैत्री पदे पदे ।’ Shiva means to say as Parvati and he had uttered a few words to each other they were friends and
