( २३ ) In this and the following three stanzas the poet describes how did Parvati adopt the various things, one after the other, necessary for a person practising penance. CHANGE OF VOICE :—अहार्यनिश्चयया तया विलोलयष्टि- प्रलुप्तचन्दनं हारं विमुच्य बालारुणबभ्रु पयोधरोत्सेधविशीर्णसंहति वल्कलं बबन्धे ॥ ८ ॥ HINDI TRANSLATION:—उस अटल निश्चय वाली (पार्वती) ने हिलती हुई लड़ों से (छाती में लगे) चन्दन पोंछने वाले हार को उतार कर, प्रातः कालीन सूर्य के समान कपिश, स्तनो की ऊँचाई से छिन्न अवयव वाली (तनी हुई) पेड़ो की छाल धारण कर ली ॥ ८ ॥ ENGLISH TRANSLATION —She, whose determination was unalterable, having taken off her necklace, which wiped away the sandal-paste (on her breast) by its tremulous strings, put on a bark-garment, tawny like the morning sun (and) the compactness of which was loosened by the elevation of (her) breasts. 8 PURPORT IN SANSKRIT : —निश्चलनिश्चया पार्वती भूष- णानि महार्घवस्त्राणि च परित्यज्य तपोऽनुकूलं वेषं परिधत्ते स्म । आदौ तया मौक्तिको हारः परित्यक्तः, यस्तस्याः स्तनयोरन्तरालेऽ- लम्बन्त यश्च तयोश्चन्दनलेपं प्रामाष्ट । शरीराच्छादनाय चोद्यत्सूर्यपिङ्गलं वल्कलं धृतं, यस्यावयवानां कुचकाठिन्याच्छैथिल्यं जातम् ॥ ८ ॥
