( ५१ ) सवितारंसूर्य ऐक्षत ददर्श । 'ग्रीष्मे पञ्चाग्निमध्यस्थो वर्षासु स्थण्डि- लेशयः ' इति स्मरणात् । पञ्चाग्निमध्ये तपश्चचारेत्यर्थः । सवितैव पञ्चमोऽग्निः—' अग्निः सविता सवितैवाग्नि. ' इति श्रौतलिङ्गात् ॥ २० ॥ PROSE ORDER:—शुचौ ज्वलतां चतुर्णां हविर्भुजां मध्यगता शुचिस्मिता सुमध्यमा नेत्रप्रतिघातिनीं प्रभां विजित्य अनन्यदृष्टिः सवितारं पेक्षत ॥ २० ॥ NOTES :—शुचौ—ग्रीष्मे during the hot season. It is also used for one month only, viz, आषाढ or ज्येष्ठ । For the various meanings of शुचि Cf ‘ शुचिर्ग्रीष्माग्नि- शृङ्गारेष्वाषाढे शुद्धमन्त्रिणि, ज्येष्ठे च पुंसि धवले शुद्धेऽनुपहते त्रिषु । ’ इति मेदिनी । ज्वलतां—( √ज्वल्+शतृ ), दीप्तिमblock? No: दीप्तिमतां burning, blazing चतुर्णां—of four ( fires ) While practising the पञ्चाग्नितप, four fires are placed on all the four sides, and the Sun serves the purpose of the fifth fire हविर्भुजां—हविः भुञ्जते इति हविर्भुजः, तेषां which consume the oblations i e, fires. Its another synonym is हुतभुक् । मध्यगता—मध्यं गता ( मध्ये स्थिता ) sitting in the midst शुचिस्मिता—शुचि ( शुद्ध ) स्मितं ( हसितं ) यस्याः सा of bright smile ; of sweet smile Mark, here शुचि means ‘ bright, ’ while in the first line it means ‘ the hot season ’ स्मित—Smile. The √स्मि ‘ to smile ’ means ‘ to wonder ’ when preceded by वि, e. g, विस्मित । The use of this Adjective shows that Parvati did not mind the hardship of penance in the least and maintained the same happy mood as before. सुमध्यमा—सु ( शोभनः )
