वैराग्य शतक

तृष्णानि शय्या परिधान बल्कलम् ।

न बन्धुमध्ये धनहीन जीवनम् ॥

व्याघ्र और हाथियोंसे भरे हुए जड़ूलमें रहना भला, वक्षोंके नीचे बसना भला, पके-पके फल खाना और जल पीना भला, घास पर सो रहना और छालोंके कपड़े पहन लेना भला ; पर भाइयोंके बीचमें धनहीन होकर रहना भला नहीं ।

सोरटा ।

विप्रनके घर जाय, भीख माँगिबौ है भलो ।

बन्धुन कों सिरनाय, भोजनहु करिबौ बुरो ॥५५॥

55. Worthy of all praise the hungry but proud man who for the sake of filling the empty pit of his stomach wanders from village to village or from forest to forest, holding in his hand a broken earthen vessel covered with a clean piece of cloth, begging at doors the frames of which have been blackened by the smoke rising from the oblation-fires of learned Brahmans, but it is not proper to demean himself by asking people of equal birth for charity.

चाण्डालः किमयं द्विजातिरथवा शुद्रोऽथ किं तापसः

किं वा तत्त्वविवेकपेशलमतिर्योगीश्वरः कोऽपि किम् ॥

विप्रन=ब्राह्मणों। बन्धुन=भाइयों। सिर नाय=सिर नवाकर माँगिबो=माँगना। करिबो=करना।
