First the original sloka has been put, then the purport and after that the soul-enchanting verses of Shri Maharaja Pratap Singhjoo and last of all the English translation has been put in. The purport verses and English translation all have been numbered as per the original slokas. But in the verses appearing in the explanatory notes no number has been given, because those verses do not give the purport of the original slokas of the VAIRAGYA SHATAKA. They have been put in along with the notes, simply to cheer the readers and it is hoped they will offer a pleasant reading to the reader.

In the preparation of this book much help has been taken from Tulsi Satsai, Sunder Bilas, Kabir's Sakhī. Occasional quotations have also been made from "Ustad Zauq" "Dagh the great poet" and Ghalib the great poet. For these quotations I am much indebted to my venerable friend and scholar Pandit Jwala Dutta Sharma, Editor "The Pratibha."

I received much assistance from a friend of mine in its preparation. I wanted to disclose his name and wrote for permission, but he seemed to be quite unwilling to consent and it is with regret that I can not publish his name here.
