( १४५ ) कर्मणि यथा भवति तथा व्यायतपातम् with a cruel blow ; so as to make a deep wound An Adverb to अक्षिपोत् —विव्याध struck. Imperfect ( लङ् ) of √क्षि हिंसायाम् । In this verse the three states, viz, दृक्सङ्ग (attachment through eyes ), मनःसङ्ग ( attachment through mind ) and कृशता (leanness ) of Parvati have been suggested by the poet. 54 CHANGE OF VOICE :—पुरा विशीर्णमूर्त्तेः अपि पुष्पधन्वनः शितामुखेन असह्यहुङ्कारनिवर्तितेन पुरारिं अप्राप्तमुखेन इयं हृदि व्यायतपातं अक्षीयत ॥ ५४ ॥ HINDI TRANSLATION :—पहिले समय में नष्ट शरीर वाले भी पुष्प के धनुष वाले (कामदेव) के बाण ने, जो कि (शिव का) न सहने योग्य हुङ्कार से लौटा दिया गया था और महादेव तक जिसकी नोक नहीं पहुँच पायी थी, इसके हृदय में गहरा घाव कर दिया ॥ ५४ ॥ ENGLISH TRANSLATION —Formerly, although his body had been destroyed, the arrow of the Flower- bowed (i. e., Cupid) which was hurled back with the Hunkara sound, difficult to be borne (and) whose point failed to reach the enemy of the cities (i. e., Shiva), struck her in the heart with a cruel blow. 54 PURPORT IN SANSKRIT —पूर्वस्मिन् काले कन्दर्प शिवं विजेतुं तस्योपरि स्वबाणममुञ्चत् परं स बाणस्तेन गम्भीरेण हुंशब्देन परावर्तितः कामश्च दग्धः, ततो नष्टस्यापि कामस्य बाणः कोमलहृदयामिमां पार्वतीं हृदयेऽतितीव्रतया विव्याध ।
