Cf ‘मुण्डो वा जटिलो वा स्यादथ वा स्याच्छिखाधरः’ मनु०। शरीरबद्धः—शरीरेण बद्ध शरीरबद्धः, or, शरीरं बद्धं यस्य स शरीरबद्धः (मूर्तिमान्) in bodily form बद्ध may be used either as first or the second member of a Bahuvrīhi compound. ‘वाहिताग्न्यादिषु’ पा० २ ३ ३७। The other form shall be बद्धशरीरः। प्रथमा- श्रम —प्रथमश्चासौ आश्रमः प्रथमाश्रमः (ब्रह्मचर्याश्रमः) the first stage of life The four stages of life according to scriptures are ब्रह्मचर्य, गृहस्थ, वानप्रस्थ and संन्यास। यथा —इव like. तपोवनम्—तपस वनम् the penance-forest विवेश—(√विश् + लिट्) entered For the contents of verse, Cf ‘तपोविपाककाले तां जिज्ञासुर्भगवान् शिवः। ब्रह्मचर्यव्रतधरो विवेश तपसोऽचलम्। अजिनाषाढधारी च प्रगल्भवचनो मुने। ज्वलन्निव जटाधारी ब्रह्मज्ञा ब्रह्मतेजसा’॥ शिवपुराणम् ॥ ३० ॥ Change of Voice :—अथ अजिनाषाढधरेण प्रगल्भवाचा ब्रह्ममयेन तेजसा ज्वलता इव केनचित् जटिलेन शरीरबद्धेन प्रथमाश्रमेण यथा तपोवनं विविशे ॥ ३० ॥ Hindi Translation :—तदनन्तर, काले हरिण के चर्म तथा पलाश के दण्ड को धारण किये हुए, बोलने में चतुर, ब्रह्मवर्चस से प्रज्वलित सा, कोई जटाधारी (मुनि) शरीरधारी ब्रह्मचर्याश्रम के समान (उस) तपोवन में आया ॥ ३० ॥ English Translation —Then a certain (ascetic) one with matted hair, wearing an antelope’s skin and holding a staff of Palasha, eloquent in speech, burning, as it were, with Brahmanic lustre, like the first stage of life incarnate entered the penance-forest 30.
