12 রত্নাবলী রচনা করিয়াছেন তাহা আমরা শ্রোত্রপরম্পরায় শুনিয়াছি, কিন্তু অভিনীত হইতে দেখি নাই ; সুতরাং সকল লোকের চিত্তহারী সেই মহারাজের প্রতি সম্মান এবং আমাদের প্রতি অনুগ্রহ প্রকাশপূর্ব্বক আপনি যথারীতি উহার অভিনয় করুন।' সেইজন্য আমি এখন বেশরচনা করিয়া ইঁহাদের অভীষ্ট সম্পাদন করিব। অহো, আমার দ্বারা সমস্ত সামাজিকগণের মন বশীভূত হইয়াছে (অর্থাৎ সকলে স্তিমিতভাব অবলম্বন করিয়াছেন) ইহাতে আর সংশয় নাই। Eng. Today in this occasion of the Spring-festival I have been called with great respect by the circle of kings hailing from various quarters and countries and dependent on the lotus-like feet of the king Shri Harsha, and have been told by them in the follow- ing manner—"We have heard from ear to ear that a Nátiká named Rátnavali with unrivalled plot-construction has been composed by our lord Shri Harsha ; but we have not seen it being performed on the stage. So out of high regard towards that king delighting the heart of the people and as an act of condescension towards us, the drama should be performed with proper dramatic technique and production." For that reason I, having finished the dressing and make-up (of the actors), shall do the work as desired. Ah, the minds of the whole audience have been capti- vated by me so far as my own conviction goes. For— श्रीहर्षो निपुणः कविः परिषदप्येषा गुणग्राहिणी लोके हारि च वत्सराजचरितं नाट्ये च दक्षा वयम् । वस्त्वेकैकमपीह वाञ्छितफलप्राप्तेः पदं किं पुनर्- मद्भाग्योपचयादयं समुदितः सर्वो गुणानां गणः ॥ ५ ॥ तत्र हेतुमाह—श्रीहर्ष इति । श्रीहर्षः निपुणः कविः । एषा परिषद् श्रोतृमण्डली गुणग्राहिणी, लोके भुवने वत्सराजचरितम् उदयनचरितं हारि चित्ताकर्षकम्, नाट्ये च नाटकाभिनयकलायां वयं दक्षाः, एकैकं प्रत्येकम् उपर्युक्तानामित्यर्थः, वाञ्छितफलप्राप्तेः
