( ८७ )

हाथों परवत फाड़ते, समुन्दर घूँट भराय ।

ते सुनिवर धरती गले, कहा कोई गर्व कराय ?॥

छप्पय ।

भये जगत में धन्य ! धीर, जिन जगत रच्यो है ।

काहू धारी शीश, अजों वह नाहिं लच्यो है ॥

काहू दीनो दान, जीत काहू बस कीनो ।

भुवन चतुर्दश भोग कियो, काहू जस लीनो ॥

इमि अधिक एक सों एक से, तुम हो तिनमें तुच्छवित ।

दश बीस नगरके तृपति हवैं, यह मदको ज्वर तोहि कित? ॥ २ ॥

23 There were many large-hearted people in the past who helped in the early creation of the world. There were others who maintained it by the force of their arms and still others who won the whole earth and then gave it away to the needy valuing it no better than a straw. There are some even now in this world who enjoy the overlordship of the fourteen regions. What should we say of the fever of vanity contracted by persons who won only a few villages ?

त्वं राजा वयमन्युपासितगुरुभक्षामिमानोक्ताः

ख्यातस्त्वं विभवेयंशांसि कवयो दिक्षु प्रतन्वन्ति नः ।

रच्यौ = रचना की । काहू = किसोंने । धारी = धारण को । शीश = सिर पर । अजों = अबतक । लच्यौ = मुका । भुवन चतुर्दश = चौदह भुवन । जस = यश । इमि = इस तरह । भे = हुए । तिनमें = उनमें । छवित = नाचोड़ । तोहि = तुम्हें ।
