बनवाये हुए महल सूने पड़े हैं। जो मलमल और खासा पहनते थे, नागर-पान खाते थे, अकड़-अकड़ कर टेढ़े-टेढ़े बलते थे, अभिमानके नशेमें चूर हुए जाते थे और बदनेमें इत्र, फुलेल और सेण्ट प्रभृति लगाकर महलोंमें साते थे, वे स्वप्नमें भी नहीं दीखते। देखते-देखते न जाने कहाँ गायब हो गये !

छप्पय ।

बहुत रहत जिहि धाम, तहाँ एकहिको राखत ।

एक रहत जिहि ठौर, तहाँ बहुतहि अभिलाषत ।

फेर एकहू नाहि, करी तहाँ राज दुराजी ।

कालीके संग काल, रची चौपड़की वाजी ।

दिनरात उभय पास लिखे, इहि विधिसें क्रीड़ा करत ।

सत्र वाशी सोबत सार ज्यों, मिलत चलत बिछुरत मरत ॥३६॥

39. In homes where there were many members before, there is only a single one left now i. e., out of innumerable members only one is survived. In families, which consisted of a single person at first but had multiplied afterwards, not a soul has been left in the end. Thus the changeable god of Time is playing at dice with his wife Kali, the goddess of destruction, using Day and Night as a pair of dice for casting and laying poor mortals at stake on each turn.

जिहि=जिस। धाम=घर। तहाँ=उसमें। ठौर=जगह। उभय= दोनों। क्रीड़ा करत=खेलते हैं।
