वैराग्य शतक

सदा सत्य बोलते हैं—सुपनेमें भी झूठ नहीं बोलते—वे स्वर्गमें जाते हैं, क्योंकि ये सात स्वर्गकी सीढ़ियाँ हैं ।

गोस्वामीजीने ऊपर स्वर्गमें चढ़नेकी सात सीढ़ियाँ बताई हैं, अब वह नरककी तीन नस्लेनी बताते हैं :—जो लोग चोरी, जोरी और ठगी अथवा और तरहसे धोखा देकर पराया धन हड़पते हैं, जो लोग अनीति और अन्याय करते हैं—पराई स्त्रियोंको भोगते हैं, पराई विन्दा या बदनामी करते हैं, पराया काम बिगाड़ते हैं, झूठा खेल्ते हैं, वेश्यागमन या रण्डीबाजी करते हैं, जो लोग अपने सुखके लिए जीवोंको मारते हैं अथवा मोहके बशमें होकर जीवहत्या करते हैं, यानी छल, अनीति और हिंसाका आश्रय लेते हैं, वे निश्चय ही नरकमें जाते हैं ; क्योंकि ये तीनों काम नरककी नस्लेनी हैं ।

63. Refraining from killing all sorts of living beings and from stealing other people's property, speaking the truth, giving alms according to one's means when an occasion for charity arrives, remaining silent in a place where men are talking about other people's wives, demolishing springs of all the desires, behaving humbly before teachers and elders, kindness to all living beings and having equal faith in the teachings of different Shastras are the infallible paths which lead to the acquirement of everlasting bliss.

मातर्लक्ष्मि भजस्व कंचिदपरं मत्काञ्चिणी मा स्म भू- भोगेभ्यः स्पृह्यालवो नहि वयं का निस्पृहाणामसि ॥
