पहुँचाया ; चौदनी रातमें सुन्दरीके कोमल अंधर-पल्लव (निचले होठ) का रस भी नहीं पिया। हाय ! हमारी जवानी सूने घरमें जलने वाले और आपही बुझ जाने वाले दीपककी तरह योंही गयी ॥८६॥

दोहा ।

थिया पढ़ी न रिपु दले, रहौ न नारि समीप ।

योगन यह योंही गयो, ज्यों सूने ग्रह दीप ॥८७॥

89, We did not attain in this world literary knowledge which pleases the meek and puts down the vanity of the crowds of critics, Nor did we extend our fame up to the gates of Swarga by cutting down the backs of elephants' heads with the edge of a sword. Nor did we drink in the moonlight the flowery juice of the soft lower lips of our beloved ones. Alas ! that our youth has passed away uselessly like a burning lamp in an empty house, which spends itself away without being of any use to anybody.

ज्ञानं सतां मानमदादिनाथनं

केषांचिदेतन्मदमानकारणम् ॥

स्थानं विचिक्तं यमिनां विमुक्तये

कामातुराणामतिकामकारणम् ॥८०॥

अच्छे मनुष्योंमें तो ज्ञान उनके मान-मद आदिका नाश करता है ; किन्तु दुष्टोंमें वही ज्ञान मान-मद प्रभृति योगुणोंकी वृद्धि करता है । एकान्त स्थान योगियोंके लिये तो मुक्ति दिलानेवाला
