यह दशा देखि अस्वस्त चित, जीव थरथरत रुकत सुख ।

अपने सुजरे या उदरहित, “देह”, कहै को सतपुरष ?॥८॥

8. If one had not to see the distressed face of a housewife, wearing worn out clothes, the skirts of which are continually being drawn by miserable looking children and who has to feel the agony of listening to the cries of hunger-stricken members of her family, who having a sense of self-respect would utter, for the satisfaction of his own hunger, the word “Give” spoken in a faltering tone, owing to his throat being choked by the fullness of his heart, in fear of his appeal for charity being refused.

निवृत्ता भोगेच्छा पुरुषबहुमानो विगलितः

समानाः स्वर्घाताः सपदि सुहृदो जीवितसमाः ॥

शनैर्षष्ठ्योत्थानं घनतिभिरुद्धे च नयने

अहो धृष्टः कायस्तदपि मरणापायचकितः ॥९॥

बुद्धापेके मारे भोग भोगनेकी इच्छा नहीं रही ; मान भी घट गया ; हमारी बराबर वाले चल बसे ; जो घनिष्ठ मित्र रह गये हैं, वे भी निकम्मे या हम जैसे हो गये हैं । अब हम बिना लकड़ीके उठ भी नहीं सकते और आँखोंमें आँखेरी छा गई है । इतना सब होनेपर भी, हमारी काया कैसी बेहया है, जो अपने मरनेकी बात सुनकर चौंक उठती है ! ॥९॥

शुष्ठासा यह है, कि हमारी जवानी चली गयी है ; वह
