-त्या vs -द्या: look at 'त्या' in "प्रतन्या" (wait, प्रतन्या has न्य, not त्य). Look at 'द्य' in "adopted" (English) or Sanskrit: Wait, in "प्रकिन्त्या", let's look at the character: 'प्र' 'क' with 'ि' = 'कि' 'न्' + 'त' + 'य' + 'ा' = 'न्त्या'. Notice how 'त' and 'य' join in Devanagari: 'त्य'. With 'न्' in front: 'न्त्य'. Yes! It is 'प्रकिन्त्या'!
Let's do a final review of the text line by line to ensure 100% fidelity to the printed page.

परिशिष्ट २४५ Khaṇḍa I Verse 53 हिंवडां छल नवि छांडूं BGK preferable to DJF reading [छयल भणइ नवि छांडउं], being more relevant in the context and also more representative. 57 यांद BJ (K) pref. (cf. बंधीवाल I 154; चंदिण I 236, III 187); यांन CDG (F) also is acceptable. 59 बाउसू K is the original reading (cf. वावसू F, वायसू G) > बायस a corruption. 60 मागनिसार emended from BD; मारनिसार C (FJ) is also acceptable. 62 पांढि K (B) pref. for rhyme; कोट AG is also acceptable. 66 मेल्यउ K (A) pref. as more fitting in the context; दीठउं C (DGJ), however, is also acceptable. 70 धार D is the original reading > धाइ A, धार I₁ (ख), घोर G, गोर J, चोर B. 71 धीचउ A (BK) preferred to कीचउ D (CJG) as a more representative reading. 74 हूहं डाक CK (A) pref. to हईंआढक B or हीयादानि D (J), as a metrically more correct reading. (cf. I 200; III 73) 75 पिजूंरां K is pref. to पजूरां B as a Rājasthānī form. केलिहरा KJ is the original form > केलहिरां G and केल्हेहरा D. 82 a Note—B reading वाजि वाजां अनि जुद हुआं सुहड संज्या मेल्लाबि is an interest- ing example of scribal emendation of the text which was not properly understood by the scribe. The correct meaning of the words वाजा and जेटूआ in the original has eluded the scribe, who by false analogy understood वाजा as 'musical instruments' and so emended the preceding word वाला into वाजि. Similarly जेटूआ has been read by him as जेह्या and then misconstrued by him as a contraction of जेइ हुआ, which he promptly restored to जुद हुआ. In this context चूड़ासमा would be entirely out of place, and is there- fore, emended to सुहड संज्या, which is phonetically similar and suitable to the context of the scribal restoration. There are several examples of such scribal emendations, unconscious or deliberately made by the scribe either due to misreading or misunderstanding the original text or merely with a view to improve it. Often an ordinary scribe like that of DG or KL happens to preserve the text better than a sophis- ticated one like that of J or C or B. 85 ऊलप्या D (J) pref. to उलट्टई A, and धमुक्या DK pref. to ध्राम्हरुइ A, धम्मुक्कि BC, as the context requires a verb in the past tense. 89 याल्ति K appears to be the original reading > चाल्ति D, वाल्त FG. पापलि (फेरी) ABFK pref. to पापरीया CJ, पापरीए D (E), पापरा G, as more representative (cf. पापलि फिरी III 181).
२४६ कान्हडदे प्रबन्ध Khaṇḍa I Verse 96 हलहल ACD pref. (cf. I 93); ल्ह ल्ह FGK (E) is also acceptable. • नांगइ DEG (JBC) (= defacing)¹ is the original reading > लांगइ F, ( भांजइ A, भागई K. ) 97 कविलास AK pref. as a Rājasthānī form; it also rhymes better. किलास E is another Rājasthānī variant. 100 त्रीवल (= 'three pairs of bullocks')—failing to grasp the meaning, J emends the reading by substituting a Sanskritized variant, वृषभ. 103 कोलाहल ABCK pref. as a more representative reading; हालाहल D, or होलाइल E (FG) (cf. हालल्लोल I 73) is also possible. 111 तेजी BFG (A) pref; तुरी CJK (DE) is also acceptable. 114 मुहिम em. should be the original reading > महिम BK, महम् A (F), मुहि G (D). 116 मिलवा ABFG pref. to मत्वा CDE as the Rājasthānī form. 118 कुणि A (K) pref. > कणि BCE, किणि D, which also, are acceptable. 121 त्रिहुं ABDJK (CGEF). I (Derūsari) emends it as बिहुं। 129 नेस DEFG pref. as more representative, and also as rhyming with देस just preceding. From नेस > रेस A. 131 संभालउ JK (cf. संभालु B, सामलयो G) pref. to संभाले ACF, संभलावे D, as the context requires here a verb in the Imperative. 134 लिगारइ pref. as a Rājasthānī form. 135 साल्हु सोभनु बलवंत राउत restored; cf. साल्हउ सोभउ अति बलवंत III 35. 136 तुरक A pref. to avoid tautological repetition with दल, 136 iii qr, and कटक, 137 i qr. 140 मन AF pref. as the original reading (cf. मन ADFJE I 151; मल ABL IV 176); मत GK is also possible. 145 आयसि D (F) is the original reading > variants आइस A, आवस GK, which drop the case-termination. 149 फूटइवाज em. from KACDFG is the original reading > फूट्या व्याज B, a mislection, and मूंषि वल्ला J, an unwarranted restoration. 154 टाडि F pref. to दाडि ABJK as it rhymes with ताडि in the next caraṇa. 161 मुष A pref. as a Rājasthānī form. 177 विगुत्तां DK (B) is the original reading > विगूपन A, विगूपनि G, वियोगनं F. 181 रानाहु BDG is accepted (cf. सन्नाह C); रानाइ AK (JF) is also possible. सान्यां बान अपार ABEG is more representative than बांन न लभइ पार D (CJ) and also avoids repetition with ii qr preceding. 182 तउ pref. to इनइ तु E or इवि तु CDGJ for metrical reasons. ¹ नांगइ = व्यङ्गयति, अनङ्गीकरोति; cf Bālaśikṣā of Saṁgrāmasiṁha; 'Prācīna Gujarātī Gadya Sandarbha', p. 212
परिशिष्ट २४७ Khaṇḍa I Verse 183 दिति AE (K) pref. ; देसि CDG (J) is also possible. 183 b reading in CDJ represents only one ms-family and is unsuitable in the context. 187 घरणी ABG pref. ; धरती CDEJK also acceptable. Bhaḍāulī Line भडाउली B pref. (cf. भझाउली C, भटाडली D); भिड्डाउली AEGK is also possible. 3 सिरथि is the original reading (cf. 'सईवादी I '255; सीकरी IV 57) > संघि A, सिंहथि B, सहयि J are scribal restorations. 9 मुहाडि AE is the correct original reading (cf. मुहिडि G, महीदै B, माहि दाहे D); मुडाधानि C is a scribal restoration. 10 शेहय A adopted ; सेलहथ D, सेलहुत em. (B) are also acceptable. 45 लहिद्रया D (AC) is the original reading > mislections हलूहया B (ह and 'ल interchanged, and द्र misread as ह), लहिल्या E (ह being a slip of the scribe for द्र). 51 प्रतिटा AEG (cf. also प्रतिष्टया D, प्रविष्ट JK) is the proper Old Western Rājasthānī form ; प्रतिष्टा C, प्रविष्टिन B are Sanskritizations. 56 मनि A gives better sense ; however, मुत्ति BK (E) is also possible. 65 दीधा ABCDJK — निष्पा E, निखा G are noteworthy variants. 73 पड्या AK (cf. पाज्या B) pref. as more representative and preser- ving the initial rhyme ; मान्या J (CD) can also be accepted. 85 ऊपररा A (JK) noteworthy as the original form > ऊपरा BCEH. 103 शव C (सव H) is the prevalent Gujarati form ; शिव ADEK, probably a Rājasthānī variant of the word, would be misleading here. 104 हूंते pref.; थके हूंते K (DE) noteworthy as an instance of use of parallel expressions both conveying the same sense. Or, perhaps, it may be an instance of interpolation of marginalia into the text— थके, a variant reading for हूंते, noted below the latter, having crept into the text. 111-112 जरहवीण A (EH) pref. to जरहू BD (GK); (cf. जहरवीण BGDEJ; I 204). 129 रूप हारण्यु K preferable in the context; रूप हारतु E (CD) may also be accepted. 140 पुनुप E (cf. धुनप A) pref. as a Rājasthānī form. Khaṇḍa I Verse 193 सावरइ A (D) preferable to साचरया GK (EHJE), as a present-tense verb suits the context better ; however, नाचरया em (CK) or साचरिया EJ is also acceptable. 196 दमामा (BJKE) preferred. दमामा CD (HA) is another variant of the same word, and is also acceptable.
२४८ कान्हडदे प्रबन्ध Khaṇḍa I Verse 202 असमुहीया ऊठइ A preferred to ऊठइ असमुहिया E ( D H K ) as usually the odd quarters end in a verbal form in adjoining verses, and also as the initial rhyme is preserved. यलशाक A ( B D E ) pref. ; यलयाक GH ( K ) is also possible. 214 लडाइ D pref. to लहीइ E J for rhyme. लडाइ is the original form >, वढाइ A, वादि C, होई K. 216 दीया AC ( J ) pref. to गाला BEHK ( D ) as the context requires a verb here. 220 रिण A ( K ) pref. as a Rājasthānī form. 221 कणवि A H ( E ) pref. ; कणसे B D J is also acceptable (cf. III 80, 101). 225 रोजी ABK ( H ) pref. to रेवंग CDEJ for metrical reasons. 229 वेणि BDJ (= Sk वीणा) pref. to वीण E, वेणा H. 232 त्रिणि DJ accepted; त्रिन्हि A, तिन्हि E also equally acceptable. 233 कूटउ नवि ( B C K ) reads better in the context than नवि कूटउं ( D J A H ). 234 Note — The word बीर in वानर बीर has, by association, lead BK to restore as पावन बीर. हणीया A ( H ) pref. metrically to मार्या B C D E ( J ). 249 बोलिइ D ( H ) (cf. बंधव J) preferable in the context to बोलइ A. 255 राय A B C D J K emended as राइ to rhyme with पूजाइ in the next caraṇa. सईवाटी ( A ) is the original reading > सिवाडी B, सउवाडी D ( CJ ), छइ वाडी K. 256 b reconstructed from CJ; necessary for uniformity with the ending caraṇas of the remaining Khaṇḍas (Vide II 168, III 251, IV 353). Khaṇḍa II Verse 1 रिदि J ( D K H ) pref. as the proper owg form (cf. I 9): ऋदि A B C is a Sanskritization. 2 कृपा ABK pref. to भूमि CJ ( D ) as a more representative reading. 3 पुल्ह AK ( B ) pref. to पल्ह HD ( CJ ), as a Rājasthānī form. 4 रुलंता A ( K ) pref. to रलंता BCDJ, as a Rājasthānī form. नयरि B ( A ) pref. to नगरि CDK as an earlier form (cf. I 18, III 124). 6 पहिरन AK adopted; पहिरणि B C D J is, probably, a feminine form of the same. 7 दुख्या दीसइ D ( C ) pref. to भगइ दुख्या K ( BH ) as more suitable in the context. 8 मुहुणि is the original reading, which, through false analogy with मुह (Sk मुख) > मुंहि C, मुह थइ H. 10 दइ AK pref. to दिइ J, दि BCDH, as a Rājasthānī form. दिवराणां ( AJ ) pref. as an earlier form than देवराणां C ( B D H K ). 11 एकइ एकि AK pref. to एकाएकि J ( D ); cf. Modern Gujarātī एके एके.

२५० कान्हडदे प्रबन्ध Khanda II Verse 61 महलि A (C) pref. to भुक्ति B D H J (K) for initial rhyme (cf. I 139). 65 DJ MSS emend उदीसा to दीसा, a place in North Gujarat, thus betraying their Gujarati origin. Similarly MS B which emends the names of the Rājput clans of Saurāṣṭra (वाला, जेठुआ and चूडासमा I 82) most probably comes from Rājasthān. 69 दंदूर DK (C) is the original reading > झूगर A, डूंगर J, scribal emenda- tions. समुद AB pref. to समुद्र CDK (J), as a Rājasthānī form. 72 माहि जे K (A) pref. to माहिम J, माईम D (B), as giving better sense. 76 एहवु हईइ J (D). It is interesting to note how हईइ gave rise to variants like हुइ and थयु having an entirely different sense : हईइ CDJ > हीइ H > हुइ A (K) > scribal emendation थयु B. 77 जेईनई AC (BJH) pref. to the usual Rājasthānī form जाईनई (DK) on metrical grounds. 84 करइ पलक्का DH (BJ) pref. > करि पलकता C, परा पलक्कइ K. 88 वस्तु BCDJ pref. as more suitable to the context; वस्त्र AK (H) is also possible. 93 उलटीयां CD (JK) pref. to झलहलीयां AB (H), being more suitable in the context (cf. I 82). 95 पडइ ADK adopted; पटि CHJ also possible. 98 ऊपरिउड J (HKD) is the original reading and is metrically more suit- able; ऊपरि लीउ A (B) is, probably, a scribal emendation. 100 बालि ACHJ adopted in preference to बालइ L (K), बालि BD. वालिइ would have been preferable, if found in any of the MSS; though, perhaps, बालि here = वालिइ, which having two इ-s in immediate contact, dropped the last, and was contracted to बालि. 110 रातीवाहि AJ (HL) pref. as the original reading > रातीवाइ B (CDK). (cf. III 160, 237; also I 151). 112 चेडि A accepted here as the usual form; बाडि BJ (CL) also possible: It is interesting to note here how ऊठवइ in the original, misread by C as ऊछवइ (छ and ठ being very much alike in the script of this period), was promptly restored as उत्सवि, which, however, has no relevance in the context here. 120 विछूटउ A (D) pref. to विछूट्टं B, वछूटउं C, as तीर in Rājasthānī belongs to the masculine gender. 121 बाण A (CDJ) pref. to डाण H (BL); (cf. चूकइ तीर II 119). 122 प्रतापि AH (B) preferable to प्रसादि CD (JK) as a more current phrase. तुम्हारइ K (CDJ) is the original reading > variants मारी B, मारीनई A (L). 126 धाइ BJ (AK) adopted > थाइ L. दालइ D (C) also possible.
: परिशिष्ट : २५१ Khanda II Verse · · ; - It is noteworthy how झाडभीड > the mislection कीटबीट K through the similarity of letters झ and क in the script of this period. 127 आवइ A (BH) preferable to वीसइ DK (CJ) as more suitable to the context and preserving the initial rhyme. 128 सूत्रहार JK is the earlier owR form. It is interesting to note how सूत्रधार D (Sanskrit) > सूत्रहार JK (earlier owR) > सुहतार H (later owR) > सूतार C (modern Gujarati). 133 रंडमाल A (CJ) adopted ; मुंडमाल BD (H) also acceptable. 140 त्रापड AH (L) pref. to त्रापडा J (BK) for metrical reasons. 142 तुरणी pref. as a Rājasthānī form. 144 अतिइ घण A (C) is more suitable to the context than एवडउ K (LBDHJ). सविहुं A pref. as giving better sense than होइ BL (DHK) ; हुइ or होइ also possible. 147 पली BJK is certainly preferable to बली ACDHL, which is quite pointless here. It fact बली in the mss is very likely a mislection for पली. लिप्या is preferable as a Rājasthānī form. 148 बोल इसउ (B) adopted ; इसउ बोल K also acceptable. 152 (पइठी) जमहर माहि A pref. to (पइठी) पावक माहि BHK (CDL) ; (cf. II 146 अम्हे सवे जमहरि पइसिस्यूं). 154 पडिउ A. It is difficult to determine the correct reading here. भडिउ H (D) may be also possible. 155 सेटटी A adopted as giving better sense; the more representative reading, however, is छूटटी BDHK (meaning ?). 159 एतलइ पहुतउ A (BHL) pref. as preserving the initial rhyme better than पहुतु एतलइ K (CDJ). 167 वीरायतन DK is the original reading (cf. वीरायतनि J, वीरायतन L) > वीरायन AC. Khanda III Verse 3 ग्या A pref. to गया BCDHJKL as a Rājasthānī form. 5 It is interesting to note how वसि ABDK gave rise to सेव C : वसि > [वसे >] सेव C, by transposition. 7 घरि AB is adopted (though CDHJKL omit it), as the postposition तणइ immediately preceding the word presupposes the existence of a noun in the locative. पाट AK pref. to ठाठ BCDHJ, as a Rājasthānī form. मंदारि (K) preferable to मंदार ABCDHJ for ending rhyme with (इरि in) the next caraṇa.
२५२ कान्हडदे प्रबन्ध Khaṇḍa III Verse 9 स्योस CH (n B), a Rājasthānī form, preferable to सेस DK or जैसे J for ending rhyme with (दोस in) the next caraṇa. बलि B K L pref. to दलि A (C D J) as more suitable in the context. 16 सिपार D (K L J) pref. as a proper OWR form; संहार H, सिंहार A B C are, probably, restorations. 17 जिसउ A (H J) is pref. to किसउ L (B C) as more representative and also agreeing better with किसउ in the iv qr. 18 पाल्टूं (A B H L) pref. to छंडायूं J (C D K) as more suitable in the context; (cf. विषम दुर्ग मई सबि पालटीबा II 75). 19 दीसइ A L (H) pref. to ऊझै B D J K as preserving the initial rhyme better. 20 धग A K pref. to भद्द B C D H J L, as

III 64. 51 भट A (D) adopted, as भलावु B, भाणुवु H, भलउ नई K, भामो L, are all un- suitable. जीण AK adopted; जाक CJL (D) also possible. 60 शाणउ (DJ) pref. to जोलउ A, जालु H, आलप K, for metrical reasons. 61 मल्हू BH (DJ) is the correct form; मलिक, मिलक KL are, evidently, mislections. 62 मूलग B preferable to सिंघ AD (HJ), सिंघो KL, to avoid repetition with सीहु immediately preceding. 63 लाछु A pref. to लोछु BHJ (DK) for initial rhyme with लापु immediately following. लापु A pref. to लंभु DJ (K), which, however, is also possible. In that case लोछु लंभु नई वइरसी will be the alternate reading in the iv qr. 65 बेलाउत D (A) is the original reading > बेलाउल BH, बेलाउलि L. 67 पुरातल L (HB) is the original reading. It is interesting to note how पुरातल > परातलि H > धरातलि CDK, a mislection. 72 बलीय A (J) pref. to बली DHL and अनइ बली K (B) for metrical reasons. 79 पलदल ABH (K) pref. to पलभल CDJ; both are onomatopoetic words having the same sense. रण BH pref. to the usual Rājasthānī form रिण KL (A) as it (चे रण) rhymes better with पेरण immediately following. 82 अवाल्हं is the original word; निराल्हं B (L), अबेल्ह J are restorations. 87 बि सई D (JC) pref. to दसइ A (BHL) as giving better sense. रलिया CK (AH) (> लीया BL) is preferable to रोलीया (DJ) in the context. 89 It is interesting to note how the proximity of अमावस led scribes to emend a lectio difficilior like पूत्लीई to पिंड लीया B, which, in turn, was restored as दर्म लीया J, राउ सारइ K. 94 चलिवंतउ AK (L) pref. to चलंतु BCDJ, as a Rājasthānī form. 95 मूलिगा A pref. to मूलगा BCDHJKL, as a Rājasthānī form. 96 रिणंगणि A (BHJL) noteworthy as a contraction of रिण अंगणि current in spoken speech; cf. रायंगणि III 39. 99 दींथीइ D (ACJK) pref. to आंठांणइ H (B), हणायइ L as more representative and preserving the initial rhyme. 105 न्हाटि AC (LB) is the proper own form; स्न्हाटि HJ (DK) emended by the scribe is a Sanskritization of the same.
२५२ कान्हडदे प्रबन्ध Khaṇḍa III Verse 9 ह्योम CH (L B), a Rājasthānī form, preferable to ढेस DK or ढेसि J for ending rhyme with (दोम in) the next caraṇa. वलि B K L pref. to दलि A (C D J) as more suitable in the context. 16 सिधार D (K L J) pref. as a proper OWR form; संढार H, सिहार A B C are, probably, restorations. 17 जिसउ A (B J) is pref. to किसउ L (BC) as more representative and also agreeing better with किसउ in the iv qr. 18 पाल्हूँ (A B H L) pref. to छंडालूं J (C D K) as more suitable in the context; (cf. विषम दुर्ग मई सवि पाल्हीया II 75). 19 दीहइ A L (H) pref. to ऊडी B D J K as preserving the initial rhyme better. 20 घण A K pref. to भट B C D H J L, as it gives better sense. 22 सहिस B K pref. to सहस A C D H as a Rājasthānī form. जैस A (supported by ईस K L) pref. to जई C D J for ending rhyme with the preceding caraṇa. 23 छइ A H L (B) pref. to मुखि C (D K); मुखि, however, also possible. 25 धाजी DK, a lectio difficilior, is the original reading > पांजी H, बीजी B L, थीजा C, विजया A, all mislections. गिहभो H (B C D J K) is pref. to गहओ A (L) as a Rājasthānī form. अवश्य, a lectio difficilior, is the original reading > अवशक A, आवसिक J > अवस्य (हुइ) C > आवश्यक K. 27 साजी K (L H) adopted as a more representative reading; मांज्या J (D C), too, is possible. 29 घरइ A K pref. for metrical reasons; घरी C D H J L also is possible. 30 रूटउ (C D J) adopted; रूठउ (H K L), another form of the same word, is also acceptable. It is interesting to note how साहणी > हांसणी H by transposition. 31 वीर H J (cf. K) is certainly the original reading > चीर A B C D L, a mis- lection. दीजइ A K L (B) is pref.; रीजइ (C H J D) is also possible. 32 It is noteworthy how सूतै AB (L H K) > सूनै C D (J), a mislection through similarity of the letters त and न in the original. 38 प्रमार A pref. as the Rājasthānī form (cf. पमार K L) and also as metrically more suitable. 39 रायंगणि B (A) pref. as the OWR form current in popular speech; (cf. रियंगणि III 96). 40 श्रीगिरण्ड K (A L) pref. to श्रीगरण्ह B H J as a Rājasthānī form.
परिशिष्ट २५३ Khanda III Verse सह AK (H) pref. to भल्ल CDJ as more representative and also preser- ving the initial rhyme better; (cf. III 64). सेहलूत JL preferable to सेल्हप A (BKL) for the ending rhyme. 47 सहहु A pref. to सबल BDJKL; cf.
